The world has a new center of gravity.

For most of human history, success depended on control over key resources—land, labor, capital, or information. In 2025, our society revolves around a completely different type of asset: attention.

On a personal level, everything that matters — your performance, relationships, happiness, even your identity — depends on this one finite facultyManaging and investing our individual attention is becoming a strategic imperative.

At larger scales, attention is now the invisible infrastructure of modern life. It drives markets, determines elections, and decides which ideas go viral. The ability to attract and direct other people’s focus is now the ultimate form of leverage.

I’ve concluded that attention is the master key to understanding the 21st Century. It’s the through line connecting the major revolutions of the last 25 years: historic advances in neuroscience, the rise of the Internet, the impact of social media, the emergence of Dopamine Capitalism, and, beginning now, the battle in the AI companies’ race to control the future.

That’s why IoNTELLIGENCE is launching The Attention Project: a ten-week deep dive into the science, psychology, and economics of attention. This series will decode how attention actually works, why it’s become so valuable, and how to treat it as the strategic resource to thrive in what I’ve come to call our present moment: the Attention and AI Age.

AI can generate a million ideas; the human brain can only attend to one at a time. The future belongs to those who master the irresistible force of AI and the immovable object of human attention.

Why We Need the Attention Project Now

Every era is characterized by its most essential resource. Industrialization was driven by energy. The digital revolution centered on data. Attention is the dominant currency of this century.

Infinite content, algorithmic feeds, and now AI have made information and even intelligence abundant, but attention scarce – precisely because our biology and psychology can’t accommodate this onslaught. In a world where everything seems to grow exponentially, our attention remains stubbornly fixed.

Netflix CEO Reed Hastings once admitted that his company’s main competitor is sleep. That’s not hyperbole; it’s a vexing reality. There are only so many waking hours left to capture. Human attention is the cognitive equivalent of the speed of light, finite and non-negotiable — the constant that every business, movement, and idea must now obey.

That’s why attention isn’t just a personal productivity issue. It’s become the operating system of the modern world—the substrate on which everything else now runs. If physics explains how matter behaves, attention decodes how modern minds fragment and how contemporary society functions.

The Big Idea: The Four Dimensions of Attention

To understand this new landscape, we need a model that accounts for both the individual expressions and the new economics of attention.

There are Four Dimensions to Attention today:

Collectively, this model reveals how attention has become both the most personal and the most economically productive resource of our time.

They explain why:

  • Attention is the lens through which we experience existence and create meaning. It allows you to focus, remember, learn, and feel. Without it, you aren’t in control of your mind or life.
  • The ability to attract and direct attention has become more valuable than labor, power, or information, as it can be more easily converted into influence, money, and opportunity.
  • Dopamine-dealing digital distractions have extracted and commodified our attention, while simultaneously fracking our minds and eroding our agency.
  • Visibility has become proof of existence in a performative culture. Fame is the ultimate form of validation and the new measure of worth.

In the weeks ahead, we’ll decode how each of these dimensions shapes our ability to think, lead, and thrive in the Attention and AI Age.

What This Means for You

The Attention Project will explore how attention shapes productivity, identity, purpose, and power. Together, these essays form what I call The Attention Theory of Everything—a unified framework for understanding the hidden structure of the modern world, with attention influencing everything at its gravitational center.

In the next few weeks, we’ll explore:

  • The Physics of Attention
  • The Economics of Attention
  • The Philosophy of Attention
  • The Psychology of Attention
  • The Attention Industrial Complex
  • The Holy Trinity of Attention Today
  • The Next Attention War: AI Enters the Attention Age

Each upcoming essay will help you understand and leverage the most precious resource in the world today.

The ability to manage, protect, and invest attention is the meta-skill of the 21st Century.

We must all become Attention Capitalists now.
